In 2017, Richmond’s Jewish community came together with a shared purpose: to better understand and respond to the growing number of individuals and families facing crisis. Today, that effort lives on through the Richmond Jewish Care Line, which is a single, confidential point of contact for those in need and available at 804-525-8299.
Jewish organizations, rabbis, synagogues and committed community members joined forces to take a closer look at the challenges many were experiencing. What they found reflected a broader national reality. Across the United States, many Jewish individuals and families are living in, or on the brink of, financial distress. Often, it takes just one or two unexpected setbacks, such as a job loss, medical issue or family emergency, for stability to quickly unravel.
While many organizations were already working to support vulnerable community members, it became clear that something more was needed: a coordinated, confidential and personalized approach that could guide individuals and families through difficult moments over time.
That vision led to the creation of the Richmond Jewish Care Line.
Supervised by a task force of leading community partners, the Care Line brings together the strength of Richmond’s Jewish resources to support those in crisis and help them regain stability. With just one phone call to 804-525-8299, individuals are connected to a network designed to respond with care, coordination and compassion.
When someone calls, they are connected with experienced case managers at JFS Richmond. These professionals work confidentially and directly with each caller, helping them navigate the challenges they are facing and providing support as they work toward long-term stability.
The Care Line can respond immediately to urgent needs—putting food on the table, keeping the heat on or ensuring safe housing. At the same time, it connects people to resources that build a more secure future, such as job search assistance, healthcare navigation and insurance guidance.
Every person who reaches out receives personalized support tailored to their unique situation.
Too many individuals in the Jewish community are quietly struggling under the weight of financial hardship, mental health challenges or unexpected life events. For many, asking for help can feel overwhelming or even embarrassing.
The Care Line exists to change that.
Those who call are met with understanding and complete confidentiality. The staff recognizes the courage it takes to reach out and is committed to meeting each person with dignity and respect.
No one should feel alone in their struggle.
If you know someone who may be having difficulty making ends meet, encourage them to call the Richmond Jewish Care Line at 804-525-8299. The sooner they reach out, the sooner they can begin addressing immediate needs and building a path forward.
Help is just one call away.
