JFS Care Aides Earn Disease Specific Specialist Certification

November 18, 2025 By Colton Wood Leave a Comment

Twenty-eight JFS Richmond Care Aides recently completed their Disease Specific Specialist Certification, a professional training that deepens their understanding of the complex conditions many of our clients live with every day. Their accomplishment reflects not only their individual dedication but also JFS’s continuing commitment to strengthening the quality of care we provide across the community.

The program spans 13 hours of online instruction taken over six weeks. Throughout the course, Care Aides move through a series of modules that explore multiple body systems and disease processes. Topics include the structure and function of the heart, the progression and symptoms of Parkinson’s disease and the impact of various chronic conditions on daily living.

When JFS first offered these certification-level training in 2023, 10 Care Aides participated, so this most recent group represents a significant expansion of that early effort. Today 42 JFS Care Aides are Certified Dementia Care Specialists, 21 are Certified End of Life Specialists and 18 have both Certified Dementia and End of Life Specialties in addition to our new Disease Specific Specialists. Their commitment to professional growth underscores the pride they take in their work and the importance they place on delivering exceptional care.

To celebrate the achievement, JFS hosted a small gathering where each graduate received a certificate honoring their effort.

These 28 newly Certified Specialists now bring a heightened level of insight and preparedness to their roles. Their expanded understanding of chronic diseases allows them to anticipate needs more effectively, communicate more confidently with families and support clients with conditions that require special attention. In turn, this strengthens the foundation of care that JFS provides throughout the Richmond community.

We are deeply proud of their hard work, their professionalism and their unwavering commitment to the people we serve. Their dedication makes a profound difference every single day and this certification is a powerful example of their ongoing pursuit of excellence.
