November is National Family Caregivers Month, a time to honor those who dedicate their lives to caring for others. At JFS Richmond, we’re proud to celebrate our incredible Care Aides like Eva Bates-Sherman, whose compassion and commitment make a lasting difference in the lives of our clients.
Bates-Sherman came to the United States from Liberia and has been part of the JFS family for nearly eight years. Her journey with JFS began thanks to a former supervisor who encouraged her to join, and it didn’t take long for her to realize she had found more than just a workplace.
“JFS is like a family-oriented organization,” she said. “They care for people. If you are somewhere comfortable, you stay. That’s why I’m at JFS. You know you can always talk to your supervisor when you have a problem. That’s why I am where I am.”
When Bates-Sherman lost her mother, JFS was there to support her, offering counseling and compassion through one of the most difficult times in her life.
“It’s an organization where nobody is concerned about themselves,” she said. “They are worried about others and I respect that. I am honored to be at an organization like JFS. I have a relationship with everyone.”
After eight years, Bates-Sherman continues to bring warmth, empathy, and dedication to her clients and coworkers alike.
At JFS, we’re proud to celebrate caregivers like Bates-Sherman this National Family Caregivers Month. Thank you for all that you do to support our clients and community with care and compassion every day.
