When you volunteer at JFS, you not only help someone, you learn and develop new skills yourself. It's a great way to meet new people, gain work experience and build confidence.

Be a part of a long-standing Richmond tradition and join the many others who serve our community with pride. We're always looking for people to share their talents and compassion.

Our volunteers can help in the following areas:

Friendly Visitors

Friendly Visitors make weekly social visits with older or homebound adults. These important volunteers offer friendship and companionship to individuals looking for someone to spend time with. They share stories, listen and reminisce, play games, take walks and simply enjoy each other's company.

Ideal time commitment: 1 hour per week/12 months

Telephone Reassurance

Telephone Reassurance volunteers call every weekday morning to check in, chat and make sure everything is okay. These dedicated volunteers help start the day of an isolated individual on the right foot. They also offer peace of mind for those living alone.

Ideal time commitment: 1 hour per week/6 months

Administration

In order to best serve our community, our office needs to run efficiently and effectively. Administration volunteers are a vital help to JFS Richmond and these roles offer valuable non-profit work experience. These organized volunteers help with administrative tasks around the office such as maintaining and updating databases, managing files, helping to coordinate client social events, and much more.

Special Projects

In addition to our ongoing volunteer opportunities, we’re always looking for volunteers to contribute their special skills and capabilities. Do you enjoy photography? Are you a savvy event planner? Do you have a background in social work? Your expertise can benefit a number of our volunteer programs.

Join the Snow 4 Wheel Corps

To make sure our aides get to and from their clients' homes during the snow that invariably will come this winter, we are recruiting volunteers to help us in the mornings and evenings during inclement weather to transport staff to and from client homes.

If you have a 4 wheel drive car and you are at ease driving in bad weather, this is an assignment for you! You won't believe how appreciated you will be! This is literally a lifesaver for some clients who cannot be left alone.
