For nearly 35 years, Sydney Fleischer has been part of the fabric of JFS Richmond, growing alongside the agency and helping shape its clinical leadership.
“When I came here, I was living in Washington,” she said. “Even though I grew up in Richmond, I didn’t know about Jewish Family Services.“
What began as a new opportunity became a decades-long professional home.
Her husband, a psychiatrist at MCV, made the move to Richmond with her decades ago, building parallel careers rooted in service to the community. She came to JFS after working in Washington at Saint Elizabeth’s and Kaiser Health Plan.
Over the years, her responsibilities at JFS shifted: Chief Operating Officer, Director of Clinical Services and now Agency Advisor and Clinician.
Throughout her time at JFS, she has served under multiple executive directors and transitioned to part-time work while continuing to provide care, something she values deeply.
For Fleischer, JFS has been more than a workplace. It has been a place to grow, adapt, lead and, most importantly, continue doing the clinical work she loves.
After 35 years, her commitment remains steady, caring for clients and strengthening the agency she has helped guide for generations.
