November is National Family Caregivers Month, a time to honor those who dedicate their lives to caring for others. At JFS Richmond, we’re proud to celebrate our incredible Care Aides like Judith Hendrick, whose compassion and commitment make a lasting difference in the lives of our clients.
Judith has been part of the JFS family for three years, bringing warmth, patience, and a deeply personal sense of purpose to her role as a Dementia Care Specialist. With a sister living with dementia, this work is more than a job—it’s a calling rooted in love, understanding, and advocacy.
“It’s close to my heart. I think every person living with dementia deserves safety, dignity and as much joy as possible at whatever. My goal is to help them navigate this disease with compassion and grace.”
Before joining JFS, Judith worked as a teaching assistant in pre-K and kindergarten classrooms. When COVID hit, she felt drawn to something new, recognizing she had more to give to those who needed support.
“When I started working with the seniors, I realize there’s not a lot of difference. There’s a lot of similarities between working with the very young and the elderly with dementia. For both you need to make sure they’re safe and bring them joy and build them up.”
Judith knew early on that JFS was the right place for her. Her first client left a lasting impression and showed her she was part of something special—an agency committed to treating every person with dignity and compassion.
“What really drew me into JFS and made me realize it’s like a family… they help anybody regardless of race or religion. They have open arms and treat everybody the same, anybody in need they’re there to help. The staff supports each of us along this journey without hesitation, and it’s just a building full of beautiful hearts.”
At JFS, we’re proud to celebrate caregivers like Hendrick this National Family Caregivers Month. Thank you for the care, compassion and commitment you bring to our clients and our community every day.
